MCE Centennial Award
The MCE Centennial Award recognizes the outstanding personal effort of a student enrolled in at McMaster University Continuing Education who applies for the award and best meets the qualifications listed below. The award includes a commemorative trophy and a cash award of $1,000.
Members of the MAPS Board of Directors, salaried and hourly staff are not eligible for this award.
You may apply for this award if you have:

- Completed 4 certificate courses from any of the MCE programs
- A “B” average based on last four courses completed;
AND
-
- Overcome particularly adverse circumstances in order to attend university;
OR
-
- Demonstrated outstanding achievement or commitment in activities distinct from university studies.
Examples of qualifying activities or circumstances:

- Significant voluntary community involvement;
- Significant university committee or student association involvement;
- Significant health problems
Examples of activities or circumstances that would NOT, on their own, qualify.

- Returning to school after many years away
- Working full-time while attending school
- Homemaking / raising children
However, any of these non-qualifying circumstances would be considered in the context of the overall application (as part of the normal activities that all part-time students manage).
TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS AWARD, YOU MUST:
Complete this application form and attach the following:
- A cover letter outlining how you either
- Overcame particularly adverse circumstances in order to attend university; or,
- Demonstrated outstanding achievement or commitment in activities distinct from university studies.
- A current curriculum vitae
- A current transcript
- ONE (1) letter of non-academic reference supporting your application
Nominations may be submitted in person, email (maps@mcmaster.ca) or by Canada Post, but must be received before the deadline.
