Undergraduate Centennial Award

The Undergraduate Centennial Award recognizes outstanding personal effort of an undergraduate degree student who applies for the award and best meets the qualifications listed below. The award includes a commemorative trophy and a cash award of $1,000.

Members of the MAPS Board of Directors, salaried and hourly staff are not eligible for this award.

To qualify for this award you must apply and:

    • Have completed 24 units of undergraduate courses at McMaster
    • Must have a “B” average based on last 24 units taken; and
    • Obtained the majority of course units while attending McMaster as a part-time student

AND

    • Have overcome particularly adverse circumstances in order to attend university

OR

    • Have demonstrated outstanding achievement or commitment in activities distinct from university studies.

Examples of qualifying activities or circumstances:

    • significant voluntary community involvement;
    • significant university committee or student association involvement;
    • serious health problems

Examples of qualifying activities or circumstances that would NOT on their own qualify:

    • Returning to school after many years away
    • Working full-time while attending school
    • Homemaking / raising children

However, any of these non-qualifying circumstances would be considered in the context of their being done as well as school and as well as the qualifying circumstance or activity.

TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS AWARD, YOU MUST:

Complete this application form and attach the following:

  • A cover letter outlining how you either
    • Overcame particularly adverse circumstances in order to attend university; or,
    • Demonstrated outstanding achievement or commitment in activities distinct from university studies.
  • A current curriculum vitae
  • A current transcript
  • Two non-academic letters of reference supporting your application

You may apply for this award more than once during your time at McMaster; however, the award can only be won once by a student.

Nominations may be submitted in person, by email (maps@mcmaster.ca) or by Canada Post, but must be received before the deadline.
